What is Tree for Mercy Foundation (TFMF)?

Tree for Mercy Foundation (TFMF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to tree planting, water conservation, and sustainable livelihood programs across Sri Lanka. We aim to restore ecosystems while empowering local communities.

Is TFMF a registered organization?

Yes. TFMF is officially registered with the Registrar of Companies in Sri Lanka as a guarantee limited organization.

What is the connection between TFMF and Citigardens?

TFMF is an initiative supported by Citigardens, which began environmental tree planting as a CSR project in 2010. Citigardens provides technical support and expertise for plant production and irrigation systems.

What regions do you operate in?

We have ongoing and completed projects across 14+ districts, including large-scale planting in Mannar, Gampola, Mawanella, and Nawalapitiya.

What types of trees do you plant?

We plant a variety of shade, fruit, and timber trees — including coconut, mango, jackfruit, cashew, khaya, and various native shade trees.

You can contribute by sponsoring tree planting projects, water well programs, or community agroforestry initiatives. We also design custom CSR programs to align with your company's sustainability goals.

How do you ensure transparency in fund usage?

All projects are operated on a cost-plus service model (10–15%), ensuring accountability and transparent reporting to donors.

Can donors visit project sites?

Yes. Donors are encouraged to visit ongoing and completed projects to witness the direct impact of their contributions.

Will I receive updates or reports on my sponsored project?

Yes, we provide periodic progress reports, photos, and impact summaries for all sponsored projects.

Can schools, municipal councils, or corporates partner with TFMF?

Absolutely. We regularly collaborate with schools, government bodies, and private organizations for greening projects and awareness programs.

How does TFMF manage plant supply and logistics?

We maintain a network of partner nurseries and manage logistics based on pre-orders and district-level supply chains to ensure timely delivery.

What are "rootballed trees" and why are they used?

Rootballed trees are fully grown (10–12 feet) trees with intact root systems that can be transplanted easily. They save 5 years of growing time and are ideal for public spaces and urban greening.

Yes! We welcome volunteers to help with planting, awareness campaigns, and maintenance in different districts.

What is the difference between nursery bag, grow bag, and rootballed trees?

Nursery bag trees – small, affordable, but require high maintenance.
Grow bag trees – 4–5 ft tall, better survival rate, ideal for agroforests.
Rootballed trees – 10–12 ft tall, ready for immediate landscaping impact.

When is the best time to plant trees?

We prefer planting during the rainy season to minimize irrigation costs and improve survival rates.

How do you maintain trees after planting?

Home garden recipients maintain their plants, while large-scale projects include one-year care by an appointed caretaker until trees are established.

Can you handle large-scale corporate planting drives?

Yes. Our logistics team can organize and manage 1,000+ saplings per batch efficiently, with transport, planting teams, and reporting.
